Peace of Mind with ASE-Certified Technicians

| By: Edward Carey, Christian Brothers Automotive Round Rock

You know it’s past time to take your car into the shop. That not-so-friendly whirring sound has taken up permanent residence under the hood of your car. But who can you trust to fix your car and get the job done right? You don’t want to waste time or money trying to figure out what’s wrong while paying for parts and services you don’t need.

You’ve likely been down this road before and have driven away with some good experiences and some not-so-good experiences. That’s why you should always check out the people who will service your car before you settle on an auto shop.

Here’s our best tip: When shopping for the right fit for you and your car, always look for ASE-certified technicians.

What is ASE?

ASE is short for the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence. For almost half a century, ASE has tested and certified automotive technicians and service professionals to set standards of excellence in vehicle repair and service. There are currently over 300,000 automotive technicians with ASE Certifications.

Becoming ASE-certified

Becoming ASE-certified is not easy. Before a technician can even apply to take the ASE certification exams, the technician must complete either two years of on the job training or one year in training and a two-year degree in automotive repair.

Once a technician qualifies to take the exams, there are 40-plus challenging exams, divided by sub-specialties, to test the technician’s expertise on automotive repair and service skills. This must be retaken every five years.

ASE works to protect you

You may have noticed that cars are ever changing. Ongoing advancements in technology call for ongoing training for automotive technicians. You want to make sure you are getting the best technician for your car every time.

ASE exists to do just that – protect you and give you peace of mind about who you are choosing for your car service needs. ASE Certification allows you to better gauge your technician’s level of training and expertise before you shell out any money on services or repairs.
