Tips for Winterizing Your Car for the Norman Winter

Tips for Winterizing Your Car for the Norman Winter

| By: Christian Brothers Automotive

1. Refill Your Engine Coolant

Without engine coolant, your engine is at risk of seizing up in cold weather or overheating in the summer. It's a good rule of thumb to check your coolant levels often to ensure you have the right fluid amounts. Need more fluid? Make sure that you use the right type and fill it to the appropriate level.

2. Inspect Your Tires

Autumn is a great opportunity to inspect your tires and make sure that they can handle driving in winter. If they have seen better days, you should consider new tires and, if Norman is expected to have a snowy winter, snow tires could be a smart purchase. Additionally, make sure you check your tire pressure on a regular basis.

3. Check Your Wipers & Wiper Fluid

It is quite dangerous to drive through a snow storm without a working pair of windshield wipers. If yours are streaking, squeaking, or skipping, it's time for a replacement. While you are at it, check your wiper fluid level to ensure you can keep you windshield clean and clear all winter long.

4. Replace Your Batteries

Winter is a rough time for batteries, especially if they are more than a few years old. Take a look at your battery for signs of corrosion. If you are in need of a new battery, you might be able to find sale prices in the fall season.

5. Prepare An Emergency Kit

If your car breaks down during the winter, you want to make sure you are ready. Put together an emergency kit that contains a flashlight, jumper cables, a few tools, warm clothes, a blanket, extra coolant and oil, and a small shovel. You'll also want to make sure you keep plenty of gas in your tank and fill your spare tire with air.

By following these tips, winter driving can become a much safer experience. If you need assistance with these steps or want to learn what else you can do to winterize your vehicle, visit Christian Brother Automotive in Norman. Our team is committed to your safety as you hit the roads this winter.
